Willard Joe Trammell is president of Kentucky Self Advocates for Freedom,
Before
Joe even knew what self-advocacy was…He was doing it. After my mother passed
away when he was 14 years old, He found himself thrown into a world that did not
offer him much encouragement. He realized quickly that no one else was going to
speak up for him. Therefore, He began advocating for his education and to learn
basic daily living skills at home. Though, told by family that he could not
make it on his own, Joe moved out when he was 18 years old and has lived
independently ever since, teaching himself the needed skills to maintain a home
and manage his own money. In 1997, after attending a Legislative Breakfast in
Frankfort, Kentucky, Joe had a desire to help individuals with disabilities
advocate for themselves and others. Joe is a Co-Founder and member of the
Southeastern Kentucky People Who Care Advocacy Group where he has served as the
group’s Chairperson, Historian and is presently Treasurer. Webmaster Joe is a
member of Kentucky Self-Advocates for Freedom and serves on its Board of Directors.
